Our story

Dr. Rath graduated from LSU School of Medicine in 1999 and completed his surgical training at LSU in 2007. He obtained additional training in liver/kidney/pancreas transplantation and complex hepatobiliary surgery at Cedars SInai Medical Center in Los Angeles, after which he began general surgical practice in California’s Central Valley for 3 years.  In 2011 Dr. Rath was recruited by a hospital in Central Louisiana and returned to Alexandria, LA to become part of a general surgery/trauma surgery group at Rapides Regional Medical Center, a Level II trauma center. After spending 3 years there, he moved to the DFW metroplex in 2014 to be closer to my family and worked at Medical City Arlington as the Trauma Medical Director for 5 years, during which time the   hospital’s trauma team elevated MCA from a level III to a level II trauma center, the only of its kind in Arlington. Over this period, Dr. Rath was part of the general surgery core staff as well and in January 2019, elected to step down as a full-time trauma surgeon. He joined Dr. Rajesh Padmanabhan, who has been practicing general surgery in Arlington for 15+ years and, together, serve the Arlington, North Mansfield and North Ft. Worth Area.  Their mission at DRP SURGERY is to be a high quality, reliable, and convenient surgical option for patients and primary care physicians in the Arlington/Mansfield area. They provide a wide range of office and hospital-based procedures and between them have 25+ years of surgical experience.

Dr. Rath continues to be an active participant in the administration at MCA as the current Vice Chief of Staff and remains an advisor to the trauma program.  He has also been appointed as Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency program and will be part of the core faculty. When not in the hospital, Dr. Rath plays recreational-league soccer, trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and is a member of the Student Health Advisory Council for Carroll ISD.  He also assists in coaching his two sons’ youth baseball and flag-football teams.
