Dr. Rath graduated from LSU School of Medicine in 1999 and completed his surgical training at LSU in 2007. He completed additional training in liver/kidney/pancreas transplantation and complex hepatobiliary surgery at Cedars SInai Medical Center in Los Angeles, after which he began general surgical practice in California’s Central Valley for 3 years. In 2011 Dr. Rath was recruited by a hospital in Central Louisiana and returned to Alexandria, LA to become part of a general surgery/trauma surgery group at Rapides Regional Medical Center, a Level II trauma center. After spending 3 years there, he moved to the DFW metroplex in 2014 to be closer to family and practiced at Medical City Arlington as the Trauma Medical Director for 5 years, during which time the hospital’s trauma team elevated MCA from a level III to a level II trauma center, the only of its kind in Arlington. Over this period, Dr. Rath was part of the general surgery core staff as well and in January 2018, elected to step down as a full-time trauma surgeon.
He returned to private practice at that time and has an office in North Richland Hills. He has over 20 years of experience, and has performed over 1000 robotic cases. His mission is to be a high quality, reliable, and convenient surgical option for patients and primary care physicians. He performs surgery at THR and Methodist Hospital in Southlake and also Medical City North Hills.
When not in the hospital, Dr. Rath plays recreational-league soccer, trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and is a member of the Student Health Advisory Council for Carroll ISD. He also enjoys fishing and can often be found at various ponds and lakes in the North Ft. Worth area.
